when i was in first grade i bought a plastic jesus.
it was my very first jesus ever. i was a first grader in annunciation
catholic elementary school and sister virginia mary was selling jesus. i
had to have one.
there was something desirable about this white, glow-in-the-dark jesus.
actually it was jesus' lifeless body lying in the arms of his mother mary
after being taken off the cross. i saved up for weeks to get enough money to
buy one. i remember examining it slowly and carefully when it was finally
mine. i was enthralled by the smooth contours of the lines on this divine
figurine.
when i brought jesus home he had a prominent place on my night stand,
directly under my light. now after just a few minutes under the
incandescent he could shine in the darkness.
things change as time goes on and eventually i lost my jesus. as things
continued to change i also lost many other things in my life. i finally
got to a place where i got the real jesus. but then i got a wooden church.
